In Roman mythology, fauns are place-spirits (genii) of untamed woodland. Romans connected their fauns with the Greek satyrs, wild and orgiastic drunken followers of Dionysus. However, fauns and satyrs were originally quite different creatures. Both have horns and both resemble goats below the waist, humans above; but originally satyrs had human feet, fauns goatlike hooves. The Romans also had a god named Faunus and a goddess Fauna, who, like the fauns, were goat-people.
Fauns were often depicted playing a panflute. And #11 in the series, only one more to go. This one was so much fun but VERY tricky to do. Painting the fur took me ages. I repainted the entire figure using a picture of  for the upperbody. I slightly referenced the placement of the legs from a picture from *lockstock's gallery. All the rest is painted and parts a photographs from sxc.hu. Orginal image is 3600 x 5400px. One more to go, any suggestions? Note me! Thanks for looking!
